What shaped the approach here
An RV is heavy, and it sits in one place for months at a time on ground that is mostly sand. That is why the pad was built up in layers with a compacted base under the finish gravel rather than dropping stone straight onto the yard: without a base, the wheels press through and the pad ruts in the first wet season. The timber border keeps the material where it was put instead of letting it spread into the grass.
