What it is
#57 limestone is a versatile, relatively coarse aggregate. The angular stone locks together while leaving gaps that let water move through, which makes it a common choice for driveway bases, drainage areas and French drains.

What it looks like
Angular, off-white to gray crushed limestone with sharp broken faces and very little dust.
How big the pieces are
Most pieces are roughly dime to quarter sized.
What it is like to walk or drive on
Loose and rolly underfoot, and awkward for a wheelbarrow. Vehicles drive on it comfortably once it has bedded in.
What it is normally used for here
Driveway and RV pad bases, French drains, gravel around downspouts and yard drains, and parking areas.
How it handles water
One of the most free-draining materials we deliver. Because there is little dust between the pieces, the gaps stay open and water moves straight through.
When not to use it
Not a comfortable walking path, not for bare feet, and not a smooth finished driveway surface on its own.
What it gets confused with
#89 limestone, which is the smaller version, and crushed shell, which is lighter in color and softer underfoot.
How it changes over time
The angular pieces knit together and hold their shape. On soft ground the stone can press down into the sand over time, which is why a base layer or fabric is often used underneath.
Sizes are approximate. Crushed stone and shell are screened rather than cut to size, so every load holds a range of pieces and some dust.

#57 is larger than #89 and is usually chosen where load support or stronger drainage matters. Let the project and the soil guide the choice. Measure the area and planned depth before ordering.
As a general rule, one cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep. Coverage changes with depth and material, so use the calculator for your numbers and we will confirm before delivery.

- Pick the drop spot: a firm, reachable place close to where you will use the material.

- Deliveries have a 3 cubic yard minimum, and the delivery fee is set by ZIP code.
